Activities Schedule Days at the Docks

Days at the Docks – April 28 & 29, 2012

Started in the 1980’s, the Springtime festival called “Day at the Docks” was recently expanded to 2 days becoming “Days” at the Docks.

Over 50 arts and crafts vendors and a dozen food vendors set up for two days of fun.The weekend starts off with a 5K and 10K run at 8:00 am Saturday morning.

Vendors sell their wares from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sat. and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday. More info: https://www.hbmerchants.com/events.html

Activities Schedule Cape Fear Sailfish3rd Annual Cape Fear Sailfish Classic August 11-14, 2012 This tournament is built for fun, experience the thrill of circle hook rigging, trolling in the nearshore waters for the elusive and beautiful sailfish. The format consist of a Captains meeting and pig picking for Thursday night, circle hook rigging demonstration by experienced captains and their mates. Fishing takes place in boundaries ranging from WR-4 to the Jungle, so boats participating from area home ports include Bald Head, Wrightsville, Holden Beach, and of course, Ocean Isle Beach. Fish Friday and Saturday, wrap up with cookout and prizes on Sunday. Charter boats welcome. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 6 2012 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the 6th Annual Sunset at Sunset Festival at Sunset Beach, NC.

Sunset at Sunset begins at 10:00 near the Ingram Planetarium. Last year over 4,000 people attended!

The 2012 Sunset at Sunset event will be fabulous! New vendors, new events, great music and tons of fun for everyone are in the plans.

Again this year is the 5K Beach Run/Fitness Walk for Adults and a Children’s Fun Run.

Activities Schedule Paws AbilityOctober 7, 2012- Paw’s Ability 2nd Annual Poker Run

Paws-Abillity’s 2nd Annual Poker Run on Bicycle will be held on Sun, Oct 7, 2012. The Winds will host a card draw site for participants as they ride along the streets of Ocean Isle Beach. The breathtaking view of the ocean and the Inter Coastal Waterway will encouraged 200 bicycle riders to complete the designated route.

Participants will ride to various destinations on the island collecting playing cards to form a poker hand. Each participant’s hand will be played at the party at the Ocean Isle Inn (the final stop) where prizes for BEST poker hand and WORST poker hand will be awarded. Food including hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, bbq and cookies will be served to participants after the ride. There will also be a silent auction held and entertainment for everyone at the Ocean Isle Inn.

October 20-21, 2012 – The 32nd North Carolina Oyster Festival

Activities Schedule NC Oyster Fest

2012 will mark the 31st anniversary of the festival, which will be hosted by the Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce.

Awarded North Carolina Event of the Year 2007 by the North Carolina Association of Festivals and Events, the 29th Annual North Carolina Oyster Festival will feature: Live entertainment, a road race, a surf contest, kids area, over 120 arts & crafts vendors and 13 food vendors, North Carolina Oyster Shucking Championships and an Oyster Stew Cook-off.

If you’re not a fan of the oyster don’t let that stop you. There are all kinds of food vendors with everything from Greek gyros to cheesesteaks to homemade ice cream (not to mention funnel cakes, cotton candy and burgers and hot dogs).

The Winds tends to book up way ahead for this nationally recognized festival so make plans and reservations as soon as possible!

Join Brunswick County Parks and Recreation in its first Adult Halloween Tennis Tournament to be held at the Ocean Isle Beach Park.  Held from 9:00am until 2:00pm, the tournament is for intermediate and advanced tennis players.  Ages 18+ single fee: $15, Century Doubles fee: $25, Same Gender and Mixed Double fee: $25 *additional $5 for same day registration

Oct 27th & 28th, 2012 – NC Festival by the Sea

This 2 day events is kicked off with a parade down the Holden Beach causeway. This is the only day of the year that you can walk across the Holden Beach bridge and each year several hundred take that high altitude stroll to stake out the perfect spot to view the parade. Arts and Crafts vendors are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sat. and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Sun. You’ll want to plan to be onsite for at least a couple of meals and a snack or two, just to sample a tiny portion of the food on hand. For the competitive sort, there is a horseshoe tournament and a sandcastle building contest. Children enjoy face painting, huge kites flying overhead and the children’s rides and amusements. Activities Schedule Lucky Leprechaun RaceMarch 16, 2013-Lucky Leprechaun 5K

Hundreds will come out to participate in the race along first and 2nd streets on Ocean Isle. The crowd is usually a festive bunch, dressed in all shades of green with St. Patty’s Day flair.

The race begins at 9am. There are several different race categories and many winners; the overall best time wins a free 2-day stay at The Winds. After the race, participants are treated to a hamburger and hotdog lunch complete with all the fixings!
