April 1st – 5th – American Idols Kellie Pickler and David Cook headline the 2009 Azalea Festival.

It all starts on Wednesday April 1st with the Queen’s Coronation followed by Kellie Pickler in concert at Trask Coliseum at UNC in nearby Wilmington, NC. Her hit song “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” is more than a song, it’s a statement from Kellie, who chose the upbeat tune to lead off her self-titled second album.
Since late 2005 Kellie has been living life in fast forward. Landing a spot on the 5th season of American Idol, Kellie made it all the way to the top six, a finish good enough to guarantee her a place on the American Idol tour.
On Thursday April 2nd David Cook will give his concert also at Trask coliseum. Cook entered the Billboard
charts at #3 with David Cook (19 Recordings / RCA Records). The Rob Cavallo produced album also debuted as the #1 album on the digital album chart and is the best debut from an American Idol winner since 2006.
Cook’s first single, “Light On,” dominated the AOL Top 40 radio chart with 8 (non consecutive) weeks at #1. In late September “Light On” premiered on AOL Music’s pop culture news site, PopEater.com, receiving over 1 million plays in less than week.
Rolling Stone Magazine deemed Cook “the most imaginative American Idol talent to date.” Cook is the 34th “American Idol” contestant to appear on a Billboard chart.
Weekend events include a Juried Art Show, Garden Tour the “Something Old, Something New” Self-guided tour through various gardens throughout Wilmington followed by Christian Concerts on the Main Stage at the Street Fair in downtown Wilmington.
